Architecture + Design
Volvo is a recognizable luxury brand world-wide with a high-profile image and distinct style. Thrasher’s Architecture Division was hired to transform an existing Jaguar Land Rover dealership into a new Volvo dealership in Charleston, West Virginia.
Working with a prototype design of the facility, Thrasher served as the Architect-of-Record for the project. Our team used the provided schematic design documents to produce design development and construction documents. The documents were subjected to three rounds of strenuous brand review before passing. Thrasher’s main concern in this process was maintaining the brand design intent while making necessary adjustments that account for complications such as local regulations, local material supplies, and the available labor force.
The renovation of the 8,000 square foot dealership was multi-faceted. Due to code-related construction type issues, the entire front half of the building was demolished making way for a new non-combustible addition. Thrasher oversaw construction of a new showroom, living room, service drive and desks, sales offices, restrooms, breakroom, and parking. Each component was designed around the customer with a ‘cool’ new exterior design and a ‘warm’ inviting interior design.
