Extensive Renovations to a Historic Landmark
Fairmont Senior High School underwent significant upgrades funded by a school bond from the Marion County Board of Education. The most recent phase of the project, costing $4.2 million, introduced a new media center and library to enhance student resources. Despite the scale of work, normal school operations continued throughout construction without delays or interruptions. This careful planning ensured minimal disruption while delivering modern amenities to the historic campus.
Comprehensive Upgrades for Longevity and Safety
The total renovation cost exceeded $15 million, utilizing multiple funding sources such as QZAB, Local, SBA, and Federal Stimulus programs. These improvements added 30 to 50 years of life to the original structure. Key upgrades included the removal and replacement of windows, guards, blinds, and outdated HVAC systems. New sprinklers, ceilings, and lighting were installed, along with plaster patching and a modern fire alarm system. Each enhancement focused on safety, efficiency, and preserving the building’s historic character.
Athletic Facility Improvements and Community Impact
Beyond academic spaces, the project extended to athletic facilities, including a complete renovation of the armory. These upgrades provided students and the community with modern, functional spaces for sports and events. By combining historical preservation with state-of-the-art improvements, Fairmont Senior High School remains a cornerstone of education and community engagement in Marion County.
