Modern Design and Student-Friendly Layout
The East Fairmont Middle School is a modern, multi-level facility covering 93,000 square feet. Designed for 735 students in grades five through eight, the building offers a safe and efficient learning environment. Its layout separates fifth and sixth graders from seventh and eighth graders, with each wing featuring color-coded lockers in blue or yellow to help students navigate easily. The school is decorated in its official colors—blue and gold—and proudly displays the hornet mascot both inside and outside the building. As part of the original project, a brand-new gymnasium was constructed to support physical education and extracurricular activities.
Advanced Technology and Structural Enhancements
In addition to its thoughtful design, the school incorporates advanced technology and sustainable systems. It is equipped with the latest data and internet infrastructure, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems, and premium finishes throughout. Over the years, several upgrades have enhanced the facility. In 2014, a secure school entrance was added to improve safety. In 2022, structural evaluations and repairs were completed to address settlement and cracks in masonry walls. Working with structural and geotechnical engineers, helical piers were installed to stabilize the foundation and prevent further movement. Then, in 2023, the entire HVAC system was replaced with a state-of-the-art VRF system and DDC controls, including new refrigerant lines and ceilings where necessary.
Commitment to Quality and Long-Term Performance
These improvements reflect the Marion County Board of Education’s commitment to maintaining a high-quality learning environment. From planning and design to construction and ongoing upgrades, the project demonstrates careful attention to both functionality and aesthetics. By combining modern technology, energy efficiency, and structural integrity, East Fairmont Middle School continues to serve as a safe, innovative, and welcoming space for students and staff.
