Enhancing Recreation, Enriching Community
Marilla Park has long been a cornerstone of recreation in Morgantown, and recent planning efforts are helping ensure it continues to serve the community for generations to come. The Thrasher Group partnered with the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation Commission to create a master plan guiding a series of phased improvements throughout the park.
The first phase introduced a new pool complex featuring water slides, a lazy river, a splash pad, a zero-entry pool, and modern support and administrative facilities. To minimize disruption, the new complex was built in a separate area of the park, allowing the existing pool to remain open during construction.
Future phases of the master plan focus on revitalizing Lower Marilla Park, adding new tennis and pickleball courts, a concrete skate park and asphalt pump track, improved parking and pedestrian access, and flexible green spaces designed for a variety of community uses.
Your Partner from Planning Through Construction
The Marilla Center, long serving as both a community hub and administrative space, is planned for renovation to create additional flexible areas for BOPARC’s programs, events, and summer camps. As improvements continue, additional construction phases are set to begin according to the park system’s seasonal schedule.
Thrasher has supported the project from its earliest stages—facilitating community engagement and design workshops, assisting with funding strategies, and delivering full architectural and engineering design for the first phase. The team continues to provide construction administration and inspection services as the vision for Marilla Park takes shape.
