Community-Focused Planning
The Doddridge County Athletics Campus features a state-of-the-art sports complex design, including three turf fields, an indoor training facility, and a multi-use building housing new locker rooms and Doddridge County Board of Education offices. The athletics campus was the first of its kind in West Virginia, with the site directly beside the current high school providing elevated safety and convenience for students, families, and employees. The sports complex brings additional benefit through economic development to the county by opening up the small, rural community to ample opportunities for health and fitness activity and providing space for local and state athletic events with flexible, all-weather facilities.
Award-Winning Sports Complex Design
The Thrasher Group handled all architecture and engineering services for this athletics campus. Their work included site development, utility work, surveying, environmental permitting, and architectural design. The team transformed a steep hillside into a 14-acre flat pad—home to turfed football and baseball fields, a unique track, athletic locker rooms, and Board of Education offices.
As challenges came up, Thrasher’s expertise and strong communication with Doddridge County leaders kept the project on track. Thanks to that collaboration, the campus was ready to debut during the opening home football game—under the Friday night lights.
Classroom, Multi-purpose & Auxiliary Gym Expansion
Doddridge County High School now has a much-needed Auxiliary Gym. The space features retractable bleachers and athletic wood flooring, marked for both basketball and volleyball. It also includes a retractable basketball backstop and side courts for PE classes.
Built to meet WVSBA Quality Standards and WVDE 6200 Policy, the gym uses a concrete slab-on-grade foundation. Its structure includes double-wythe masonry walls and a steel joist and deck roof. Insulation and HVAC systems follow ASHRAE 90.1 guidelines—ensuring energy efficiency and comfort.
