Renovations
As Doddridge County continued to grow and evolve, its existing courthouse—though historically significant—could no longer meet the increasing administrative demands of the County Commission. Over time, space became limited. At the same time, the need for modern facilities became more urgent. As a result, the Commission made a strategic decision: to construct a new administrative annex that would support expanding operations and better serve the community.
To bring this vision to life, the Commission turned to a trusted partner—The Thrasher Group. Previously, Thrasher had completed architectural renovations on the original courthouse. Because of this experience, they were already familiar with the site and understood the county’s unique needs. Naturally, they were the ideal choice to lead the design of the new Doddridge County Courthouse Annex.
The result was a thoughtfully planned, 30,000-square-foot facility. It brings together several key departments under one roof. As a result, operations are now more streamlined, and services are more accessible to residents. Additionally, the annex complements the historic courthouse while providing the space and functionality needed for the future.
The new annex now houses the following departments:
- Sheriff’s Office
- County Clerk
- Assessor’s Office
- Tax Office
- County Commission and Administrative Staff
- Ambulance Authority
- Economic Development Office
- Public Service Department
- Solid Waste Management
By relocating these departments to the annex, the original courthouse has been repurposed to focus exclusively on judicial functions, providing much-needed space for courtrooms, legal offices, and related services. This strategic move not only preserves the integrity of the historic courthouse but also enhances the efficiency of county operations, ensuring that Doddridge County is well-equipped to meet the needs of its citizens now and into the future.
