Purposeful Architecture + Design for Modern K-12 Needs
The Thrasher Group’s dedication to quality in school design is clear in every detail of Coalfield Elementary School. This 60,800-square-foot PK–5 facility sits on the Mount View High School campus in Welch, WV. It replaces several outdated schools with one modern, efficient space. The building serves as both a learning hub and a community anchor.
Supported by the WV School Building Authority, McDowell County Schools, and committed partners, the project brings a long-awaited vision to life. It delivers advanced educational infrastructure to the region.
The design blends rustic charm with modern features, honoring local heritage while creating bright, student-focused spaces. Key highlights include high-tech classrooms, flexible indoor and outdoor areas, and playful touches like a slide in the gym. Every element is designed to inspire and uplift McDowell’s youngest learners.
Coalfield Elementary is more than a school. It stands as a symbol of resilience, pride, and hope for a brighter future.
Dedicated to Building Stronger Communities Together
Coalfield Elementary is more than a school building; it is a testament to the heart and resilience of McDowell County. For over a decade, Thrasher worked alongside community leaders and educational partners to pursue funding and realize this transformative project. The result is a beacon of hope and opportunity for nearly 450 children – a space that affirms to the county’s youngest citizens that their future matters.
Our team takes great pride in supporting projects that uplift communities. Coalfield Elementary stands as a promise kept, made possible by the persistence of local leaders, the dedication of true partners, and the unwavering belief that every child deserves a learning environment that reflects the spirit and strength of the people it serves.
