Innovative Engineering Solutions
The Town of Luray, Virginia, needed to replace its aging West Main Street bridge. The existing structure could no longer support the growing demands of the downtown area. To address this, the Town selected The Thrasher Group to lead the Design-Build of the new Town of Luray West Main Street Bridge. This approach provided a single, trusted engineering partner to manage the project from start to finish.
From the beginning, the project required a multi-disciplinary effort. Thrasher brought together experts from its Transportation, Environmental, Utilities, and Survey Divisions. These teams collaborated across multiple office locations. In addition, partners like Orders Construction, NGE, WRA, and AMT joined the effort. Together, they formed a strong, coordinated team.
One of the most innovative aspects of the project involved utility integration. Specifically, Thrasher’s Utilities Engineering team replaced and upgraded the Town’s sewer system. They designed aerial sewer lines that run across the bridge. These lines maintain proper gravity flow, reduce overflow risks, and improve long-term system performance.
Moreover, the team designed the bridge with the future in mind. The layout supports current traffic needs while allowing for anticipated community growth. This forward-thinking approach ensures the bridge will serve Luray for years to come.
Despite the site’s challenges, the team delivered a solution that balanced function, safety, and innovation. The final design of the West Main Street Bridge reflects Thrasher’s commitment to solving complex infrastructure problems with creativity and care.
